The Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act will:
Lower prescription drug costs
Crack down on junk plans that discriminate against pre-existing conditions
Restore funding for enrollment outreach and for states to establish insurance marketplaces
Millions of Americans rely on prescription drugs, but the cost of drugs–many that have been on the market for decades–is suddenly surging. This bill would make it easier to bring generics to market, which would create competition and lower prices for hardworking Americans.
It blocks the Trump Administration's rule that allows health plans to discriminate against people based on pre-existing conditions. Junk insurance plans that don't offer the coverage Americans need, like basic health benefits, is not real health care. #ProtectOurCare
The Trump Administration made it harder for American families to access and sign up for affordable coverage. The bill restores funding for health care outreach and enrollment so we can educate consumers on qualified health care plans and available financial assistance.
It also invests the $13.8 billion saved by promoting generic competition and cracking down on junk plans into priorities that strengthen health care, like helping states set up their own marketplaces, which studies show have higher enrollment and lower premiums.
