H.R. 1 will bring sweeping reform to the way our government is run by bringing the power back to the people. It’s time to create fair elections, reduce corruption in politics, and ensure the voices of the American people are heard.

54 years ago today, we were beaten, tear gassed, trampled by horses, and left bloody on that bridge in Selma. But we cannot rest. We cannot become weary. We must honor those who gave their lives for the right to vote. We must continue to find a way to get in the way.

  9. Today I joined my colleagues introducing bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. It's vital we continue providing resources to the survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

  12. I am appalled by 's comments, but that does not diminish my revulsion at this poster. It’s a smear, not only against her but also against the entire Muslim-American community. I call on people of all faiths to join me in condemning it.

  13. The EPA's reluctance to conduct ambient air monitoring of Ethylene Oxide in Lake County is unacceptable. This is about the health of our communities, and we need to get the facts. I will be continuing to push the EPA to begin this urgently needed testing as soon as possible.

Myself, and members of the IL House Congressional Delegation sent a letter to expressing our concern about the threat Asian carp pose on the health of Lake Michigan and the Great Lakes’ ecosystem. We look forward to the Governor addressing this issue.

  15. I'm grateful for bipartisan support for my amendment that will shed light on how many of these "default proceed" sales occur. With this important information, we can continue to work to make our background check system safer and more efficient.

In 2015, 9 innocent people were gunned down at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC. The gun used was sold even though the background check wasn't completed. It's past time for thoughts and prayers. We need action. is an important first step.

  18. Finally. I proudly voted today to end Congress’s shameful inaction on gun violence by passing a bipartisan bill requiring background checks on all gun sales. With commonsense steps like these to prevent future tragedies, we can honor those we’ve lost.

  19. This is double taxation and it’s wrong. The SALT restriction was included to put the burden of the new tax law on districts and states like ours. Repealing this unfair measure is a top priority.

  20. China's unfair trade actions have hurt American businesses, and they deserve to be held to account. But sparking a trade war can't be the answer. I've heard from businesses struggling with tariff-based cost increases. Lots to discuss today with Lighthizer.
