The international horse meat trade is a dirty business. Horses are often shipped to other countries to be killed & sold globally. Even more troubling, many haven't been cleared by any health authority, & some carry diseases that make their meat unsuitable for human consumption.
That’s why I cosponsored the SAFE Act, which would prevent threats to our nation’s public health by banning domestic horse slaughter and ending the export of American horses for slaughter abroad. Wow, thank you so much, @RepRutherfordFL! The horses of Florida are under assault, with almost weekly cases where they are stolen for slaughter. We need the SAFE Act to protect people from consuming this toxic product and to protect our horses from such brazen cruelty!

We are shipping to countries with no animal welfare laws to be killed & eaten. It is so barbaric, we love our horses. Banning horse slaughter is a major concern for many Americans.
