And I’m pretty sure Al Sharpton is here. Nadler is giving a speech about police shootings of unarmed black citizens and police misconduct.
Rep. Doug Collins gets pretty emphatic about whatever it is he’s saying. I’m not 100% what his point is. OK, I think I got it. He says the bad actors in law enforcement shouldn’t be considered representative of the profession. Nadler touched on the same thing.
And then Doug Collins takes off. I hear that’s normal. Walker was double-booked at 10. Witnesses include Eric Garner’s mom, president of Fraternal Order of Police, Al Sharpton (he is here), former tennis pro James Blake and the Fayetteville police chief. Interesting mix.
“How come no one was held accountable? No one was held and charged for my son’s death.” Gwen Carr, Eric Garner’s mother, leads off the testimony, flanked by Al Sharpton and James Blake.pic.twitter.com/7I3YVvMeFh
That’s all for me from this hearing — headed back to Rep. Walker’s office for our one-on-one interview. Fascinating stuff though.
Just for context, here’s Walker’s district.pic.twitter.com/PTIkA62M8p
After my interview — I wrote too many questions for the time allowed, a common mistake of mine — it’s lunch time. The Chinese food was not so great. If you ever eat in the Cannon Office Building, go for the pizza or something else.
Sorry, Longworth Office Building. There’s so many buildings.
Just met briefly with @RepRossSpano to talk about being a person of faith in Congress and background on Congressman Walker.
Now I’ve got a couple-hour break until votes later. Working on interview transcription.
Thank you for stopping by my office! It was great talking with you.
Thanks for taking the time, Congressman. Appreciate it.
