1/4: Today we honor Medal of Honor recipient, First Lt. Andrew Jackson (Jack) Lummus, of Ennis, TX. Lummus was a standout athlete at Ennis High School and a star at Baylor University in baseball and football.pic.twitter.com/4jDjfuEAGa
2/4: Lummus was leading his platoon under withering enemy fire when despite wounds from a grenade he single handedly advanced and took out three mutually coordinating enemy entrenchments. He was leading his men up the hill when he stepped on a land mine.
3/4: Despite the loss of both legs, Lummus continued to urge his men forward until taken off the field of battle. He died on this day 75 years ago on Iwo Jima.
4/4: The courage and sacrifice of such heroes in service to our country must never be forgotten. Jack Lummus is buried in Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis.
