Thank you @RepRoKhanna for drawing attention to this protest. I wish we had more congressmen like you. The exploitation of incarcerated workers in this country is modern-day slavery and few people have an inkling what's going on, let alone how bad conditions actually are.

Too bad the article didn’t mention that prisoners’ families have to pay so many expenses that they are unable to earn the money to pay for, themselves. Also, they should have a way to earn and put away money for when they are released.
-
Yes! On example: just getting to speak on the phone is prohibitive for many due to the outrageously inflated costs charged by the prisons.

CDC inmates get released a day early for every day worked. On top of their 50% credits. To say they get a dollar an hour is misleading to say the least
-
Fire Camp crews are also volunteers. So you can sit in your cell, yard, and do squat and collect halftime credits. Or you can fight fires and do 1/3 of your sentence. What would be fair is to increase benefits for death or incapacitating injuries

Can you add your name and office to the list of endorsers for the strike? It's easy, just fill out the form on the bottom of this page:http://sawarimi.org/national-prison-strike …

And they should be employed as firefighters upon their release, if they so desire

knowing this and then also realizing that good ol' Murica has privatized prisons for profit - it becomes apparent that America supports slavery so long as the slaves are incarcerated

Also, how do you "strike" in prison? You're still there being a prisoner, right?

Is it entirely unreasonable to require law-breakers to spend their incarceration in ways that advantage the society they have harmed? But I can't approve of making anyone do something dangerous unless he/she is both trained and willing.

Of course prisoners are not paying for their food or lodging while in prison. Is that not part of their "costs' to the state that are in part being recovered by their helping to fight fires for an extra $1/day over food and rent for their bed?

When the Democrats start beating the drum for Kamala Harris we must remind voters of the real person she is and not the smiling phony at the podium. https://www.sott.net/article/354598-Prison-labor-industry-Why-the-US-cannot-reduce-its-reliance-on-mass-incarceration …pic.twitter.com/OQuDYkhpLg

I wish the govt would B required 2 pay inmates
#MInimumWage so they learn 2#BUDGET, pay their fines, what they will live on when released, & SAVE 4 their release. How can they#CHANGE if we don't help them to learn a new way to survive? (& keep the govt from making them slaves.)Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

We need to change licensing requirements for firefighters so that people who are working as firefighters in prison can pursue careers as firefighters when they get out. That’s how you truly address

Always been cheap labor and they do it because being stuck in a cell or out on the yard is worse than a buck an hour.
