With unemployment below 4% this is also happening in other industries. Policy makers must shift to a worker focused economy rather than a jobs focused one.

Cities paying to find workers? Maybe thoughtful, pragmatic immigration reform could help. Cutting legal immigration would hurt.

. after spending nine hours sealing my driveway I then parked my car in front of it at one end and blocked off the other with cut wood to let people know not to drive on it. UPS guy drives around all of it so he/she didn’t have to walk 15’. Next time I use

This is mostly right. The doc fix portion would have been paid without regard to the permanent fix congress did in 2015. The money is the same as it would have been. The fix made it certain and protected Medicare/aid patients by insuring a doctor would actually take them.

Sec Mattis cites article II as authorization because the civil war could escalate threatening US security interests. Under this broad interpretation POTUS could go to war anywhere anytime. This argument also discounts/circumvents Article I powers.

The current authorization allowed the US to go after terrorists after 9/11. It does NOT give a blanket authorization to go after a country involved in a civil war. The cause POTUS laid out may be a noble one. Should have been easy to get congress to give ok.

The President’s authority to strike Syria does not exist absent authorization from Congress. The current authorization is based on an AUMF that is nearly two decades old. Without regard to whether Syria should pay a price for using chem weapons. Only congress can declare war.

Great stuff . The solution is not this bill. It was first the budget, then the will to follow it with individual appropriations.

After several years of declining deficits, now this. I always said as a member of congress any accomplishment is cast in sand because the next congress can simply undo your work. Well here it is.

Great opinion piece here. The need is not jobs - it’s workers. Opinion | America needs more workers. Trump’s war on immigration won’t help. - The Washington Post
