I’m infuriated, as are Mainers who depend on critical services, with what we’ve seen in the past week—Congress bringing the federal government to the brink of shutdown (2/5) #mepolitics

The House voted to keep the government open and avert a shutdown, with the support of Democrats and Republicans. 60 votes are needed to pass a bill in the Senate. Neither party has that many seats in the Senate (3/5) #mepolitics

Put simply: a government shutdown CANNOT be blamed on a single party—this is a problem that Democrats and Republicans share (4/5) #mepolitics

I’ve said that a shutdown would be a failure in leadership. Failure in leadership in both parties—but particularly in the Senate—has brought us to this point, and it is unacceptable (5/5) #mepolitics

You've had plenty of time to address CHIP and you know it. The republicans have had many, many days to reinstate it, yet chose not to. I cannot wait to vote you out of office.

This whole mess could have been avoided had the party IN CONTROL had been able to figure out what to do with themselves. Turns out complaining for 8 years =\= having a plan. 🤷🏻‍♀️

#CHIP needs funding - why has the GOP not put this forward? #DACA needs a clean bill - why doesn't the GOP do this? Majority US citizens WANT both of these items, GOP has shown they cannot be trusted. Dems are representing our people. All failure belongs to the @GOP. Own it.

Such faux outrage. It was up the the House to put forth a bill that was workable. You and the GOP led House have done a crappy job. And you still ignore #CHIPfunding and a clean #DACADeal . GOP knows what is required to pass yet will not work in a bipartisan manner.

The House bill is yet another stopgap until February 18th. Congress has only passed CR’s since October 2017. Don’t be so fast with your faux indignation while this pattern repeats. YOU are a part of the problem. The 2018 midterms are fast approaching.
