TSA’s plan to eliminate security screenings at small and mid-sized airports is misguided and dangerous. Passenger safety is paramount and I am troubled that TSA is even contemplating reducing screenings.https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/02/politics/tsa-airport-security/index.html …

passenger safety is very important, and the tsa does basically jack shit for it. they don't catch people and they just harass marginalized populations!

Considering that you can bypass the TSA by paying enough, that indicates that it was never about security. Stop lying.

I’m troubled that you’re troubled. TSA is famously bad at finding threats (https://thepointsguy.com/2017/07/tsa-fails-to-detect-threats/ …) and is not a good use of traveler time or taxpayer resources.

With due respect, this is a play by @realDonaldTrump & @GOP to pay for #GOPTaxScam by endangering air travelers & screwing over union workers.

Screw over unions / public workers - for sure, I’m with ya. Endanger travelers - no. The TSA has famously not been able to identify a single attack it stopped & security researchers are consistently able to get fake bombs and guns past screenings, it don’t do shit

Reasonable people agree TSA needs to do better. But eliminating it from 150 airports with no replacement? Insane. Regardless, this is another half-assedTrump & GOP move to pay for #GOPTaxScam Screw them

Look, I hate the guy as much as you & don’t want to give him a W on anything but only effect of eliminating TSA would be less sexual harassment of female travelers, less hassling & marginalization of brown travelers; no impact on safety

That’s TSA reform, yes? Should be a priority. But eliminating air travel security to create $300 million in #GOPTaxScam balance sheet cuts for the Orange Duce’s agenda? No way I’m down with that.

Reform of an organization assumes it has some positive function worth saving. TSA came into existsence less than 20 years ago as a vehicle for then-DHS Michael Chertoff to sell the government billions of $ of his body scan machines. You can’t reform a scam org.

OK, so you probably won't read this, but here is a tiny introduction on -why- the TSA is mainly security theater. Let's start with the two main reasons that airjackings have practically stopped since the 9/11 attacks:

1: Before these attacks, passengers were always adviced to comply to anyone hijacking a plane. The 9/11 airjackers knew this and used this to their advantage. This is not going to to happen again. Ever.

2: After the attacks, new reinforced doors to keep the pilots safe were installed so it would not be anywhere near as easy to force your way into the pilot cabin. So even if people would comply with airjackers, the pilots would still be safe.

3: The typical way of major US airports in regards to layout is basically making the security zones major choke points that -in itself- are -excellent- targets for terrorism. No need to get on a plane to kill thousands of people when they are all in one spot.

Add to that the already mentioned facts that TSA hilariously underperforms in doing its job; and that if terrorists really wanted to repeat 9/11, they would succeed getting through the security in but a few tries at most.

And that's just the -really- abbreviated version. There are plenty of independent security experts (like Bruce Schneier) that will give you a more detailed explanation if you want it.
