This week, we introduced legislation to rename the NASA IV&V facility in Fairmont after Katherine Johnson. Katherine was the first African-American woman to be admitted to WVU's Graduate program, from which she graduated with a degree in mathematics.https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/6716 …
Katherine is most notably recognized for her role in NASA's space program, where she was integral in developing flight patterns and performing statistical analysis. Her contribution to America's successful space program was recently depicted in the film Hidden Figures.

For historical accuracy, she did NOT graduate from WVU. She attended one semester of grad school there. After grafuation from WV State, she hadtwo teaching assignments-the first in VA, the second one at Monongalia High School in Morgantown which was a segregated school.
