You are right about measuring the use of American resources given that it is seriously being challenged by China. Draining US resources in the ME will result in China cementing its position at the top. US needs to invest trillions in its citizens to compete with China.

The problem is that after Reagan, the subsequent administrations squandered America's leadership in the world. Just think. The trillions wasted in the ME could have been spent on American leadership in tech, in space and in asteroid mining space ships.
