VA is a work in progress that I’m proud to help improve everyday. @AOC is correct in pointing out concerns about VA privatization, which will undermine its core mission while diminishing benefits to the veteran.

The Trump Administration has attempted to help “fix” VA by: -Implementing the Mission Act to divert resources to the private sector -Passing the Accountability Act but failing to hold any VA officials accountable His efforts to help veterans have fallen short, here’s how:

The Mission Act, as being implemented by this administration, is pushing veterans to private doctors that don’t understand their issues and will likely lead to lower quality care than what VA can offer. https://www.rand.org/news/press/2018/04/26.html …

And the Accountability Act as implemented has largely led to the firing of low level cleaning staff, not managers who set policy. The department set up to protect whistleblowers is being investigated for…wait for it…retaliating against whistleblowers. https://taskandpurpose.com/va-whistleblowers …

To improve VA we need to hire more doctors and fill the 48,000 unfilled positions. We need to protect whistleblowers that call out malfeasance and we need to focus on training better managers. Claiming credit for fixing something that isn’t fundamentally broken is just politics.

I’m sorry, but your statement is incorrect! The VA is broken. The problem goes beyond wait times. As a healthcare worker, I hear so many testimonies from veterans regarding the way in which they are treated there. You can’t believe they’re committing suicide, due to wait times!
-
I feel sorry for the vets that you speak to, but every vet in my family, myself, and all my friends have had a great experience with the VA!! The flipside of this argument is privatized medicine, what their trying to give to, is not an upgrade! Talk to a doctor. They're miserable
-
The problems exists in larger cities where there is an imbalance in patient/physician ratio
-
If you read through the thread, you see he and AOC are advocating. For filling the 48,000 open positions. That’s not a fundamental problem with the VA itself.
-
The issue is not just based on filing positions. The foundation is broken and should be repaired prior to piling workers on top. Doing so without repairs, will cause a heaviness that will cause a complete breakdown within the structure.
-
What??? Again, I and everyone I know have a great expect with the VA, so I don't grasp your vague brokenness. Address the specific issues and stay away from privatization that has major, heartless issues.
-
The quality of VA hospitals are going to differ from state to state. I love mine and have always gotten excellent care. But, in other areas this is not the case and we need to be fixing the issues, that said- I don’t believe privatization is the answer.
-
I haven't heard one vet that supports privatization!

The VA is proof that government run healthcare does not work.
-
No, it’s proof intentionally underfunded healthcare doesn’t work
-
It’s actually proof that intentionally underfunded health care still works well in comparison to civilian care. (Numerous large studies show this.) So just imagine what it could be with adequate support!

My husband had a time sensitive illness from a tick bite and his VA doctor 1) didn’t make him an appointment to come in 2) MAILED him his medication almost a week after getting positive test results back 3) had yet to follow up with him weeks later. The VA IS A BROKEN SYSTEM

-
The CDC recommends getting treatment in the form of antibiotics at the time Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is even SUSPECTED. Not waiting for test results to come back. The longer you put off treatment, the higher the chance of worse, long term complications happening.
