Why are wages not rising?
-
Wages have been flat for 40+ years
Today’s real average wage (that is, the wage after accounting for inflation) has about the same purchasing power it did 40 years ago. What wage gains there have been have mostly gone to the highest-paid workers

Kansas Warns Congress Not to Repeat Its Tax-Cut Mistake “Not only will this tax plan pay for itself, but it will pay down debt,” Treasury Secretary

@GOP poll says party "lost messaging battle" on tax cuts. By a 2-to-1 margin -- 61% to 30% -- respondents said the law benefits “large corporations and rich Americans” over “middle class families” Survey completed on Sept. 2, BTW. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-09-20/internal-gop-poll-we-ve-lost-the-messaging-battle-on-tax-cuts … via@bpolitics

Low paying jobs, I think that is what you mean to say. Real wage improvement is being wiped out by inflation. And, when you add to that what people have to pay for health insurance, education and cost of living, it isn't much to brag about. Raise wages.https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2018/08/10/america-wage-growth-is-getting-wiped-out-entirely-by-inflation/?utm_term=.f8396730a9b1 …

Fact: under President Obama in last 18 months in office 500,000 more jobs were created than in first 18 months of President Trump in office. With the unemployment as low of 4.1%, suggests that employers are having difficulity finding the workers that need. 1/

June 2018
@USDOL report appeared to offer good news, but workers are actually worse off. Real wages declined in the last year (flat for 40 yrs) & recent@UnitedWay report showed ALMOST HALF OF U.S. FAMILIES can’t afford basics—food, housing & childcare

One, the GOP tax bill adds a trillion to our deficit. The GOP is not fiscally responsible. Two, can you cite your source on this growth for the middle class?pic.twitter.com/b6QciMlMrM

What’s the national debt up to now? If I max out all of my credit cards, will you brag to the voters about my awesome financial acumen?

The data indicates a skills gap has made it harder for companies to fill open positions. Many jobs, particularly in manufacturing, administrative work, and information technology, require a greater of different skill sets than in the past, and not enough workers have them. 2/
-
These skills gaps exist in specific occupations and industries. In information technology, 17% more jobs are open than there are available workers. 3/
-
That's because demand in relatively new fields, such as Cybersecurity and "big data" analysis, have exploded in recent years Training programs have been slow to teach the new, complex skills needed. 4/
