The Hazard Pay for the Frontlines During Health Emergencies Act would increase health care workers salaries by an additional 25 percent during public health emergencies. Our health care heroes deserve it.

286 health care workers in Oklahoma have contracted COVID-19, more than 15% of cases statewide. These men and women are putting their lives on the line each day to protect our communities. That's why I've introduced a bill to provide our frontline medical workers with hazard pay.

What about other essential workers? I work at a corporate drug store in the OKC metro and I am constantly in contact with people who are sick or are caring for someone who is sick. Essential worker's lives are on the frontline as well, and we should also be receiving hazard pay.

Please don't get me wrong, I think healthcare workers are in need of so much support right now. From mask and glove shortages, to shifts that last days on end, to straight up being ridiculed by The President for "hoarding PPE" as if his response to the crisis has been helpful.

We also need hazard pay for our grocery store workers and other essential workers. They too, are putting their lives at risk and most of them barely make a few dollars over minimum wage.

Healthcare workers are undoubtedly doing an incredible job under the worst of circumstances, but so are many, many others. Logistics, sanitation, utilities, grocery/food, etc, etc. The list goes on. Throwing money at one group will by definition down play the work of others.

If this crisis is showing us anything then surely it's that everyone has a part to play and a sacrifice to make. People have given their livelihoods, careers, health, future plans, ability to care for loved ones, and so on, for the greater good. We are all in this together,

How about providing PPE & more stringent protection guidelines. EVERY medical professional should wear PPE, regardless of patients status. Law enforcement should wear PPE on EVERY call. They deserve hazard pay. They deserve strict protection. They are our Achilles heel.
