It’s especially disheartening when undergraduate students are OK’s future teachers. With such low pay for OK teachers, it would take them many years to pay off their loans. Our recent increase in OK teacher pay was nice, however we have a LONG way to go.

On balance, should anyone sign loan documents that they do not intend to repay in full, with interest?

I want stronger oversight and regulation on what’s getting billed by the schools that contributes to the balances we are trying to pay. Many schools really rack the system by piling on charges to get the aid money. It’s aid to them and debt to us, they are removed of empathy.

Government shouldn't be charging any interest on student loans. Period.

Are you serious??? Can’t believe I didn’t know that had changed. Also you used to be able to call up and skip a payment once in a while — it just got tacked on to the end. Bet they don’t do that any more.
