Many have asked about the multiplication I used to calculate Patricia's salary. In the example I walked through with Mr. Dimon, I added a $750 bonus, which the bank occasionally offers some employees. Tried to be as generous as possible in calculating the gross pay!

Hate to be "that guy" but 16.5*40*52 isn't 35,070, it's 34,320...
-
In my example, I counted the bank’s $750 bonus.

It may have been helpful to put that info on the board too so it added up for those that check things rather than just take them at face value. Thanks for clearing it up!

Seriously wtf...It is a distracting minor detail.
@RepKatiePorter your summation and questioning was on the money; JDs responses were those of a weasel coward. The living wage issue will soon hit more middle income earners in all western economies as technology automation bites. -
Can you imagine what kind of person is quibbling over her math being $750 higher. Point was even with or without the $750, people barely making minimum wage cannot make it, while bank CEO gets millions in bonuses, and don't care about employees while lining their pockeys

Its not the ceo fault that employees are willing to scrape by , Its a choice like everything else in life.

Willing? It's called fucking survival. You don't just get handed high paying jobs when they've already decided you're not worth it

Should also add this is WITHOUT factoring in real-life emergencies, which happen to everyone..car problems, health problems, etc. Etc. Keep plugging
@RepKatiePorter . -
Also doesn’t include clothing, misc. school costs for kid, car insurance (unless that’s included in cost of car) or an occasional hair cut, although I guess Jamie Dimon might call that a luxury.
-
Or health insurance/healthcare, which crush just about every working-class person at some point.
-
Oh he jumped right in and defended their corporate health plan....because it’s good to be king and brag about the kings largesse
-
The thing about them having a health care plan is more than likely she still has to pay for part of that out of her check, so really deduct another 150-200(generous) out of her take home pay.
-
And a high deductible. And a crushing out of pocket max. Even WITH insurance.
-
Hate to be the annoying neighbor upstairs. But, at that income level you actually pay less tax in Canada and have healthcare guaranteed. That being said, everything else is the same here. Except our beer costs more.

I can fix your chart. Tell her to: (1) Find cheaper rent by $200. (2) Buy used car, rid of $250 payment. (3) Complain to Liberal Rep Porter about paying $6k in taxes so illegal aliens can get free stuff in California. Steps 1-3 can net +$800 instead of -$567 deficit.

Her 2008 car is obviously used. She still has to make payments on it. Unless you’re suggesting she buy a 1970s klunker held together with duct tape?
Or were you under the impression that with her $500 monthly deficit, she has savings to buy a different used car? -
Yes, an 11 yr old car is used. $250 has to be for insurance on said car because I have never heard of a car pmt as cheap as $250
-
$15,000 / 60 = $250 a month
-
More realistically, if she is behind on some other payments, her credit rating may be “needs improvement.” A $10,250 car would still cost her $250/month. (Being poor is expensive).pic.twitter.com/pBnLDls8zJ

Being poor is so damn expensive.
