Gun control is a nonstarter. It increases stigma and will further widen the lack trust in the VA.

Agreed. Many Vets already view the VA with suspicion and mistrust. Any idea that promotes the notion that going to the VA for mental health could see civil liberties forfeited is only going to discourage Vets from seeking help when they really need it. Bad idea.

I think we need to look deeper at why suicide in the first place. Focusing on firearms is crisis management— the effect level not the cause.

There are many brilliant people taking that deeper look. Until we find the answers, we need to use the effective tools we have available. Means safety works and saves lives.
