  2. When the Violence Against Women Act was enacted 27 years ago today, it created historic protections for the rights of women and girls, and directly combatted abuse. Countless lives have been saved, but there's more work to do. The Senate must do their part & .

  4. It's the only 9/11 Commission recommendation not yet implemented. This critical equipment will further protect our pilots from terrorists who attempt to take over the cockpit — by installing an additional barrier to stop attackers from reaching the front of a plane.

  5. Congress must pass the Saracini Enhanced Aviation Safety Act to take commonsense steps to protect our nation from terror. I'm helping lead this critical bipartisan bill to install secondary cockpit barriers to protect our aircraft from 9/11-style attacks.

  8. With great loss, & in the face of great evil, our nation rose from the ashes and came together — especially here in North Jersey, where we will always live in the shadows of those attacks‚ but also countrywide, coming together past any lines that divide us, like region or party.

At one of her last birthdays, we held 'Gwennfest' to have one last great party. Today, instead of being sad, I’m trying to capture that spirit, and smile thinking of all the good times. It’s hard, but it’s what mom would have wanted. We love and miss you, mom.

Her biggest fear was that we would forget her — but there’s not a chance that could happen. She remains a big influence on my family, and she always will.

All she really wanted to do was speak about or see us and my kids. There was no more loving (or fun) grandmother. She loved to spoil my kids, and they still talk about her all the time.

Mom loved people and her smile lit up a room; she was always the life of the party. She was taken from us far too soon, but she faced her disease and last years with absolute grace and dignity.

I was blessed. Mom was always there for me and my sister. She never missed a game or an event — or an opportunity to be supportive. She was my biggest champion and number one fan.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been three years since we lost my mom. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of her, miss her deeply, and recognize a simple truth: but for mom’s love and guidance, I wouldn’t be in Congress, or, frankly, have achieved anything.

I took part in Demarest's 9/11 memorial yesterday — to remember the three lives taken from the community, the 3,000 Americans who perished, and the 2,000 first responders who have died since from toxic 9/11 exposure, as a result of this horrific attack.
