I am deeply saddened by the horrific slaughter of at least 52 Palestinian protestors and injuries to thousands more by Israeli forces. No doubt this will spark claims that Israel has a right to defend itself — and it does. But this has nothing to do with defense.

I remain a strong supporter of Israel and the two state solution and urge both sides, the Palestinians and Israelis, to cease the senseless violence.

So long as unrest is met with bloodshed, cries for peace ring hollow and hopes for a better future in the region will remain nothing more than a dream.

You omitted the word "violent" protesters. If protesters behaved that way near your home or office, it is unlikely you would greet them with love and hugs.

@DeanObeidallah said yesterday the embassy may also be a move to placate the Religious Right and their Biblical prophecies. Sounds crazy, but not so much anymore these days.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

The new US embassy is in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel. As to the two state solution- it takes a partner who does not scream every day their objective is destruction of Israel, for 70 years! Any collateral death is a tragedy, but Hamas organized this “ civil unrest “.
