Pretty sure Mulvaney knows he has to carry water for the President in the occasional embarrassing TV appearance in order to keep his job, so that he may accomplish his actual goal of destroying the safety net, worker protections and other perks enjoyed by the non-rich. Freedom!

What is it that makes normal people turn into sycophants for trump? I can't tell if it's a combo of threats/reward or if it's just blind obediencd

Ah, John, you’re too kind. Mick has always been available to the highest bidder. He just now gets to do it on a bigger stage. Mick has no scruples. Never has. Guess he used to hide it better back in the day.

I’m a Navy vet, a fleet sailor. Our ships are not something we hide, they keep us safe, they are our home, they capture our service for us. Yes, it’s beyond unreasonable, it is an insult the McCain sailors & every other sailor who ever went to sea.

I bet he doesn't hear the words "my friend" when people are referencing him very often.
