More than 85% of women will become mothers at some point in their working lives & most can’t afford not to work. Nearly 1/4 of parents have thought about leaving a job due to pregnancy discrimination. 2/3 of pregnant workers are losing their cases in federal court.

Both sides agree that it is fundamentally unjust to deny pregnant workers the basic accommodations needed to maintain their health & keep their paychecks. In fact, supporting pregnant workers would mean fewer abortions—and stronger families.

Our country is facing a gun violence crisis. From schools to grocery stores to nightclubs to houses of worship, no community has been spared from this senseless violence. We have a moral obligation to do more to protect our children and communities from this violence.

It's been 10 years since we lost 20 students and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary to a senseless act of gun violence. While we remember them today, let's recommit ourselves to finding real solutions to #EndGunViolence and keeping our children safe.

It was great to meet with the talented Angelina Jolie this morning to discuss the Justice for All Act, which enhances protections for crime victims while preventing wrongful convictions. I voted for the bill in 2004 and hope that we can reauthorize it soon.

The RMA has always been about protecting the children and loving families whose lives rely on the constitutional guarantee of marriage equality. While more must be done to protect the LGBTQ+ community, I hope that this effort is a catalyst for additional progress.

I first filed the RMA in 2009, when doing so wasn't popular. Many considered it fringe and said it would never see the light of day. But thanks to the courage and determination of so many great activists, has signed this historic civil rights legislation into law.

All workers deserve fair pay and fair benefits. I stand with New York Times staff as they exercise their right to strike.

I voted against the 2023 NDAA when it came before the House in July, and today I again voted no. Though it includes important provisions like military assistance to Ukraine, I have supported Ukraine aid separate from the NDAA, and I will continue to do so. (1/2)

Today, Congress finally righted the injustices of the Defense of Marriage Act and Jim Crow. For millions of same-sex and interracial couples, their partnerships are now protected under federal law. @RepJayapal and @RepJerryNadler on the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act

“It might seem impossible that we’ve come so far in the decade since that Windsor decision & 26 yrs since DOMA was passed—but those of us who come from progressive movements aren't surprised. Every inch of progress in American history has been won by ordinary Americans seeking justice. Today is no different. We're here because of civil rights & LGBTQ movements who never stopped pushing for equal treatment under law, because of activists who died for the right to be recognized in their full humanity by the U.S. government, because of the organizers who built coalitions & brought communities together such that the Respect for Marriage Act is bipartisan today. Even as we celebrate, we know the fight for equality & justice for LGBTQ people & communities of color has a long way to go. We'll continue to fight for the Equality Act to become law, & push, as progressives always have, to address the crises of discrimination against Black, Latino, Asian, Indigenous & LGBTQ, esp trans Americans.

This bill would benefit artists of all stripes by outlawing a system in which companies are able to generate millions of dollars from broadcasting music on AM/FM radio while not financially rewarding those involved in creating the work.
