1/ We ask teachers in this country to educate and care for our children while receiving barely survivable wages. In this last tax cut it was even proposed that they wouldn't be able to write off the money they spend on school supplies, which comes out of their own pockets.

2/ How could we possibly ask them to take on the responsibility of arming themselves to potentially shoot someone else's child in a moment of stress and panic? Who else will be struck with stray bullets? Who will answer for the accidental shootings that will surely occur?

When I was in high school, the only way in was through the main entrance. On your way in, you'd pass by two police officers, and your student ID had to be visible. I can't think of a way a shooter could've gotten past those officers undetected.

It’s horrifying for so many reasons. If I had to shoot another human to save children, I would, but I’d be scarred for life, and I think a lot of teachers might feel the same. It’s no solution at all. It just pulls energy and focus from the real solution: banning assault rifles.

I am a high school teacher. The fact that we are debating this at all is absurd. The only reason this ridiculous idea is being floated is to distract us and move the focus away from making real, sensible changes to gun laws. To quote Emma Gonzalez, "We call B.S."
