As parents, we know every child is unique. That's why our kids should have the opportunity to choose the type of education- public, private, online, & more- that works for them. School Choice allows students to personalize their learning experience #NationalSchoolChoiceWeek #MN02

Terminology Clarification - The GOP term of "school choice" means "replacing public education with privatized schools focused on making profits and religious schools". Support public education please. #PublicschoolProud

no one was arguing against this???? but public schools should be supported 100% because not everyone can afford private education.

also tax dollars should not go to private schools i say this as someone who has attended both public and private schools during my education.

As pediatrician, I have seen that "choice" works well for highly educated, motivated families, but that choice does not serve many who need it most. Personalization can take place in public school framework #fundpubliceducation

Can anyone provide a persuasive counterargument explaining why parents *shouldn't* have a choice where to send their kids for school? #MN02 #mn03

They have a choice already. You're framing the question you're trying to ask in a very misleading way. Why shouldn't someone who is sick have the choice of where to get treatment?

They should, which is why pro-school choice advocates generally support increasing choice in health care, too. @MackKennedy8 makes the point, though: many inner-city poor kids don’t have much choice. Can you make a persuasive case why they shouldn’t have more choice? #MN02

Responded to the strawman below. So now you're for public funding for healthcare?

Parents already have that choice...what you're attempting to do here is take tax dollars from Public schools, and give it to Charter schools. Which are Privatized FOR PROFIT, once again you're only helping the rich.

Taking resources away from public schools means that those schools deteriorate in quality, nobody wants more choice if that means that all of the choices they are given are worse than what was offered in the past.

Better public schools in ALL districts is the only solution that will actually help all of these “unique” kids. School choice still means kids’ education is linked to parents’ resources (financial and otherwise).

The "school choice" that republicans are actually pushing is the opportunity for unscrupulous operators to siphon funding from the public school system.

If parents want(and can afford) to send kids to private school that is there choice and always has been. Subsidizing private schools can only degrade education of kids that need it most. Rich kids will be just fine without taking $ from public schools.
