Tax reform contains one of the largest school choice expansions ever. Families can now use 529 savings plan funds toward elementary or secondary public/private/religious school, and find the best educational options for their kids #NationalSchoolChoiceWeek

Why do you think giving #GOPTaxScam to rich folks that want to put their kids in private school is a middle class tax break? #BlueTsunami2018 #TheResistance

The republicans represent the interests of the rich. The 99% don't matter much to them until it's election time and then they talk and talk and talk but once elected, they only do what the rich tell them to.

Come on guy. Maybe mention that 90% of kids go to public schools, this hurts public schools, and few actual middle class people use 529s

Wow...that's great for people who can afford to fund 529 plans. The working poor cannot do that. I'd imagine most middle class families struggle to fund them as well. We've had a hard time funding our son's because, you know, bills. But, thanks.

Betsy DeVos-style claptrap like "529's for elementary ed" benefit only the wealthy and further balkanize our shaky republic. Thomas Jefferson, fearing creation of an aristocracy, insisted that poor and rich have equal access to good education--and that the state pay for it.

Public schools should be supported, and educated public is the backbone of self governance. This bill doesn't help.

Why is that needed? How is a 529 going to generate enough money in that short of a period of time? This is just another #GOPScam to take money out of public schools in order to fund private and religious school. Bad idea that doesn't cut in #MN02

Exactly. I guess people could use 529 accounts in a expanded way intergenerationally—grandparents with $$ that want to help their kid's and grandkids college and private school. BUT, still what a narrow use case that clearly advantages the wealthy.

Why do you want to gut public schools? Wealthy kids can go to private schools with 529 savings, where does that leave the rest of the kids?

I'd venture that most Minnesotans haven't had the fiscal luxury of starting a 529 savings plan. Public schools are there to provide a rich social learning experience with kids that don't all look the same or come from the same background. That is America.

While fattening for profit schools that the GOP, Trump and Devos support that have predatory lending practices, fraud and no oversight so Americans can stay in debt for the entire adult life. Way to go Jason for helping Wall Street again.

Choices in education, health care, or anything else brings out the best of both, a staple of our free markets. You shop for a car, you select what best fits your families needs, what best fits your budget, what has the specific qualities or options for your family needs, same.
