Let us be clear about what happened today. @realDonaldTrump threatened to send the military to “dominate” protestors, his advisors referred to our streets as the “battlespace,” and he ordered the military to use force on peaceful demonstrators so he could stage a photo op.
I saw real battlefields in Iraq & Afghanistan. I saw what happens when the military is used against protesters. I’ve never wanted to see either here. These are not the actions of a rationale, fit, democratic president. They are the actions of a man who doesn’t respect our values.
Our nation is at a crossroads. We must decide what type of country we will be. Our founders rebelled against a king and placed power in the people themselves. This delicate system has endured because most of our leaders endeavored to put the good of the country above themselves.
We are now faced with a President who is unfit for office. A president whose individual failings, insecurities, and desire for power supersede all else.
We have seen this behavior throughout much of his presidency, that’s why earlier this year I stood in the well of the Senate as an impeachment manager and made the case for his removal. We are better than him, and it must stop.
He can call himself a "law and order" president, but he doesn't know what that means, and he doesn't believe it applies to him.
We have yet to see and end to this mayhem. If DT actions tonight do anything it will be to mobilize decent minded people all over America to get rid of this thug.
Call for his resignation. Impeach him again. Do everything in your power.
Let us be vigilant as Trump might use the protests as reason to impose martial law. He is already bringing the military in.
