The wall is a non-starter. Now, if the President would like to address a real issue and create bed space for asylum seekers, then we have something to talk about. In the meantime: open the government up, Mr. President.
I’ve been very clear that the only crisis on the border is one of Trump’s own making. Applying for asylum is a legal right and Trump has gone to every length to make it more difficult. Thankfully courts have blocked some of those efforts, but we need beds not walls on our border.

While I agree, will you introduce legislation that protect the rights of asylum seekers? Veterans who went down to the border saw the crisis for themselves. Will you lead the way to do the same with your colleagues?

The letter to congress asks for the following: 1. Eliminate illegal obstacles by forcing CBP to comply with asylum law and remove all limitations on the numbers of people who can apply for asylum at points of entry.
