The problem is the world prices for oil and gas. If the on-going price for a barrel of oil is $300 then American energy companies will sell based on that price. I believe we are over the dependency on foreign oil/gas but government cannot control the pricing for ever.

That is why we have to be engaged in the middle east and ensure that oil and gas flows so that prices remain stable, plus keep Saudi Arabia safe since they can control the price of oil.
