Today, I joined a conversation with Dr. Anthony Fauci on the disproportionate impact of #COVID19 on minority communities.
His assessment: Communities like El Paso are as vulnerable as nursing homes because of our underlying health and socio-economic conditions.
Conversation
I shared with him my concerns with 's decision to prematurely reopen Texas' economy even though we are near the bottom of national testing per-capita. Testing rates in El Paso are also low and our #COVID19 cases and hospitalizations are increasing.

Dr. Fauci’s recommendation is to significantly increase testing and contact tracing, which is at the core of containing the pandemic.
In the absence of a strategy from Gov. Abbott to protect El Paso, my focus will be getting our community the resources we need to stay safe.

Success stories in Japan and South Korea been based on intense testing but in Japan mainly great social distancing and hygiene without the need to stay home strategy which has been a failure in Italy

Gov. Abbott has a great strategic plan to reopen. El Paso's # are extremely low. 32 deaths/ 700,000 population! Focus should be on the high risk individuals to stay home and let the rest of El Paso get back to life. Escoba focus on all EL PASOANS and stop your attacks on GOP!
