“The MPP program also has coincided with a spike in homicides in Ciudad Juárez. In May, 151 people were killed.” Those unfamiliar with the MPP program may not understand that these people are legally seeking asylum. They are in the U.S. govt’s court system awaiting a court date.

In less than two months, the number of migrants sent to Cuidad Juárez under the "remain in Mexico" program has swelled from 2,800 to 7,600. As tension grows and homicide rates spike, human rights groups say migrants aren't safe in the border city. #border bit.ly/2JjE1Ra

The govt has policies about who can/cannot be sent to Mexico, policies intended to protect vulnerable populations, and that lawyers point out are at times violated. Oversight & accountability over govt is Congress’s job & includes oversight over asylum. Especially on the border.

If these “asylum seekers” are really seeking asylum for legitimate reasons, why do ~70% of the claims get denied as illegitimate claims? The overwhelming majority are coming for economic reasons. Not a valid reason to give them asylum.
