I’m tired of hearing the “pull yourself up by the bootstraps” trope by my Republican colleagues in Congress b/c two-thirds of Americans who are born into poverty remain there during adulthood. The idea that pulling yourself up works for everyone is a myth & it’s very harmful.

Doesn't help to have corrupt politicians leading the way in Philly, starting with mayor worthless and the missing $33 million

And you can thank the Democratic party for that. Philly has had a (D) mayor for 70+ years and what has changed? That is why this lifelong (D) #WALKEDAWAY I'm sick and tired of the party of all talk and no action. You haven't done jack shit for anyone buy yourselves.

So many Americans are still poor because you keep making false promises, keeping them dependent on government. If half the poor people became independent of government and truly Free, your party would be out of business

How can anyone pull themselves up by their bootstraps if they don’t even have a pair of boots? We hold those born into nothing ridiculously responsible for their material, social and spiritual success. We must do better.

And now we know why Philly is still a 💩hole. Politicians would rather give up & give away then fight the good fight & improve schools so Philly kids can compete on a world stag. The rest of America is Winning yet Philly is falling further into despair. That’s poor leadership

Upon doing what you suggest, how about employers pay workers s living eage of $15.00, w benefits, treated with respect.

How about obtaining skills to justify $15 per hour. Minimum wage (hint, word minimum) is for a non skilled labor. 99% of us stared with min. wage employment and worked our way up. #economics #Economist #Economics101

How do you justify paying anyone $7.25 / hr. NO ONE CAN LIVE OFF THAT!!! That is what most service jobs want to pay...

I just hired two seventeen year old kids as dishwashers for $10.00 an hour. Who's still finding employees for minimum wage in Philadelphia?

You will find that Philadelphia is at the bottom in the poverty mark.. meaning we are one of the poorest cities in the country. Google it!!!

Oh I believe that. I just wonder why the same politicians keep getting voted in over and over again. This city has been controlled by one party for over sixty years. They don't work too hard for your little amount of money.

I agree, however some people do "work" their way out of poverty. Don't take their hard earned money to give to less fortunate. You can't bring people up by taking from those who have more.
