I just texted the parents of the kids in our group to tell them no game Sunday because we’re still in Wash. state legislative session. One mom replied: “[name of kid] can’t wait for you to get back to your REAL job of being Dungeon Master.” 🤣🤣 Me too, kid! Me too!

For 20 years I’ve been saying are critical institutions for democracy, but we are not giving them the funding they need to succeed. From our working group at , here’s how to fix that:

Public higher education is a public good; deserves generous public support. And when you do that, as this paper apparently shows, all sorts of good stuff follows: lower debt, higher credit scores, higher homeownership rates, etc.

Public Service Announcement: in past years some trucks have run out of food; if memory serves sort of earlier than you’d think??? Thus: get thee to food truck lobby day!!

I love this. Also: Dr. Vest ( ) was instrumental, with two years’ worth of public testimony & behind-the-scenes work, in the New Hope Act (HB1041), this big bipartisan criminal justice reform project we did this year.

My bill (HB2158) makes public college tuition-free for students from families who earn <$60K/yr. Dr. Mosby-President of “one of the most racially and economically diverse colleges in the nation”-was tremendous yesterday explaining why that’s such a gigantic deal for his students

Our community colleges turned away over 800 (!!!) qualified applicants to nursing programs because they didn’t have enough faculty...a nurse can make almost 2x as much in healthcare as teaching So duh, we need to pay nurse educators more, which my bill (HB2158) does.

My bill-the Workforce Education Investment Act (HB2158)-passed House Finance Committee today. We give full-tuition scholarships to families making <$60K/yr, partial scholarships above that, funded by surcharge on high-education professions. Huge equity investment.

God’s work: we have *so many* students who depend on financial aid to get through college...and legislators need to be reminded of that ALL THE TIME.

Credit to my amazing constituent & to who was an extraordinary policy partner the whole way along, showing that Rs and Ds can come together to help people rebuild their lives after prison

The New Hope Act (HB1041)-my bipartisan criminal justice reform bill to help people who have spent time in prison rebuild lives-is ON ITS WAY TO THE GOVERNOR! We’ve just given hope to 100K+ people in WA who law blocked from ever clearing criminal convictions. Truly a great day.

This fabulous bill (HB1893, Rep. Debra Entenman) will help our many community college students who need some short-term, emergency financial help to stay in college

Governor just signed my bipartisan bill (HB1949) to take 1st steps to strengthen our firearms background check system. This is a big gun/public safety bill, & it was unanimous all the way through—great to find common ground on an issue that can get so divisive.

Love the strong bipartisan vote (68-29!) for bill (SB5605) requiring courts to vacate misdemeanor marijuana convictions from before Wash. legalized marijuana. Indisputably just; bill in past; great that we’re doing it.

Free college for community college isn’t enough. Pell grants cover most tuition costs for community colleges. We have to include 4 year colleges & non tuition costs. - Dr. Jones “These are justice issues”

I just told the carpenters (here lobbying on tax fraud/wage theft in construction) re the A-Team episode I saw w/ my kids recently; Hannibal gets mad when he sees a company paying workers in bags of cash out of a truck. Someone asks “What’s the A-Team?” & I now feel 900 yrs old.
