Kevin McCarthy is a lying liar whose response to the attack on the U.S. Capitol, the centerpiece of American democracy, has been spreading conspiracy theories worthy of QAnon. McCarthy should resign, and would have been removed as leader long ago by a responsible political party.

What you won’t hear from Pelosi’s sham committee: Why was the Capitol left so vulnerable that day? Why wasn't the National Guard here? Why didn’t we have a better security posture? What changes are needed to make sure it never happens again? twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1

Everything McCarthy is saying is false. Neither Speaker Pelosi nor then-Leader McConnell oversee day-to-day operations of USCP. McCarthy is suggesting that the Speaker knowingly allowed an attack by people who wanted to murder her. It's a crazy, wild lie.

House GOP trying to hang the attack on the 6th around @SpeakerPelosi's neck depends on people not understanding how the Capitol Police board works, and wish-casting away the giant rally then-President Trump was holding across town, directing people to the Capitol to fight

After the Capitol was secured the Speaker brought all of us back to the U.S. Capitol to certify the presidential election results. Kevin McCarthy chose in that moment to advance the objectives of the insurrectionists, back the Big Lie, and vote to overturn the election results.

Since then, as Rep. Cheney accurately pointed out, Kevin McCarthy has been hell-bent on undermining this investigation with lies and conspiracy theories. This was an attack on our democracy, on our country, and McCarthy is protecting the man responsible.

“At every opportunity, the @GOPLeader has attempted to prevent the American people from understanding what happened,” @Liz_Cheney charged Wednesday, adding that McCarthy’s actions surrounding Jan. 6 should disqualify him from ever becoming Speaker.

McCarthy is trying to distract people by leaning into conspiracy theories about the Capitol Police. The first thing the Speaker did in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 attack was task Gen. Honore with conducting a security review to find out what went wrong that day and how to fix it.

That investigation made a number of recommendations to improve Capitol security in the short and long term. Kevin McCarthy opposed all of them, politicized steps to keep his own members safe, and urged his conference to oppose new security measures.
