THREAD: Coronavirus has taken a toll on the well-being and finances of older Americans. To better protect some of our most vulnerable citizens we must put in place the following guided principles:
-
-
3. Place a national moratorium on evictions and utility shutoffs for the length of the COVID-19 public health emergency. This will protect older Americans, particularly those in need of affordable housing, from eviction or foreclosure due to COVID-19 related circumstances.

4. Ensure home healthcare aides - overwhelmingly people of color - have the proper equipment and resources to safely care for older Americans at home. We also must grant families adequate COVID-19 paid leave provisions to ensure they can care for loved ones as needed.

5. Place an added emphasis on quality standards for long-term care that protects healthcare workers, emphasizes data gathering, and provides adequate testing to protect both workers and residents.

6. Increase older Americans ability to use food assistance programs from home by expanding the online EBT purchasing pilot. This means supporting food banks & other nonprofits that are seeing increased demands as they serve older Americans & families with seniors.
