The Constitution mandates the President provide Congress with information on the State of the Union and “measures he shall judge necessary.” As I’ve reflected on the President’s address the last two days, I stand with those who are left behind:

An overwhelming majority of the President’s guests were worthy of the honor they received. No one will deny that. Providing hope to a select few will be remembered in the short term. But creating institutions that support all of society will be remembered for generations to come.

Janiyah Davis received a scholarship, while her classmates are left behind in a school without proper resources or support.

Sergeant First Class Townsend Williams was reunited with his family, while other military families are worried this President’s actions escalated tensions in the Middle East in January.
