Mark DeSaulnier Retweeted Committee on Education & Labor

Under today’s higher education system, graduates are entering the workforce shackled by student debt. Today, we’re advancing a bold proposal to improve the system, cut the cost of college, and expand opportunity for students from all backgrounds. #CollegeAffordabilityActhttps://twitter.com/EdLaborCmte/status/1189184981555245057 …

#HappeningNow: The Committee is considering the #CollegeAffordabilityAct – a comprehensive proposal that would cut the cost of college and make a down payment on bold reforms in higher education. Watch LIVE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2Kr_l9qZ6o …

Here’s the problem with this bill: it does not hold colleges and universities accountable for out of control tuition costs. The bill essentially subsidizes the inflated cost of education with Pell Grants. #CollegeAffordabilityAct

It's time. People in the 70s and 80s paid around $3k - $5k for their bachelors and law degrees. Now, people are paying nearly half a million dollars($500k) for the same degrees on virtually all accredited institutions.

What will this do for graduates of college with mountains of debt that prevent us from progressing in life?

The higher education system has been like this having students shackled by student debt for decades. My older sister who is near 70 still has student debt, my paternal aunt does to and she is 70. I was fortunate as I was able to go on scholarships and grants and I am 63.

It has only gotten worse over the decades. The higher education system was to achieve goals higher than our parents and to achieve the American Dream. Which in reality is the American Education nightmare.

Population of the US increased 40 million since 1970. How many colleges have been built? Lower the cost...build a college instead of offering a free ride at the expense of blue collar take home pay
