I am proud to have supported HR 4909, the S.T.O.P. School Violence Act; this bipartisan legislation is a step in the right direction to combat the violence in our schools throughout southeastern Michigan and across the United States.pic.twitter.com/5KwRIetR1c

Step in the right direction. Now on to gun legislation. Ban assault rifles bump stocks and high capacity magazines now, do it tomorrow

while this is a baby step in the right direction, the 100% preparation and 0% prevention approach is a farce. ADDRESS THE GUN ISSUE. anything less is cynical and superficial and a band-aid on the gaping wound that is gun violence in the US

And the proliferation of guns & availability of assault weapons? Are you acting to "combat" that? (Love your word choice to describe an anti-violence act.) Maybe consider addressing the root of the problem (i.e., guns) and put the funding to better use in the schools.

Spin spin spin. Won’t be effective because the root cause is nutcases can get high power, high capacity, rapid firing weapons. Can’t remove the nuts but we could not make and sell the HPHCRF weapons.

"It’s unclear what results the legislation will produce. It authorizes money, but no actual spending unless funding is included in a future appropriations measure. And at $75 million/year for 10 years, that averages ~$765 a year for each of the nation’s 98,000 public schools."
