Our nation has lost a true warrior. Elijah Cummings was a defender of democracy and champion for justice, including giving a voice to the people of my hometown of Flint. He could roar like a lion and brought moral clarity and purpose to all his work. I will miss my friend dearly.

The cuts in the aren’t a tightening of the belt or a trimming of the fat, or even a serious attempt at reining in spending. It’s the latest example of this President’s broken promises to working Americans.

Today marks 78 years since over 120,000 Japanese Americans were sent to internment camps on the west coast during WWII. We must never again let hate and bigotry restrict freedom from any community in America.
