Dan, gotta disagree with you this one. The central bank is no ones friend. We as a nation should never have gotten into bed with them. Here's a better idea lets balance the budget and payoff the national debt.

"what exactly is the purpose of America’s central bank?" To support Wall St, corporations and the wealthiest 1% (who possess 1/3 of US wealth!). Ultra low interest rates thanks to FOMC policy have supported the aforementioned by picking the pockets of savers and retirees.
