Price controls do nothing of the sort. Lack of competition kills innovation. Let the generics compete with Big Pharma products. Stop protecting their profit margins. Prices will follow suit.

This is a common misunderstanding. To develop one drug, it costs billions just in R&D and compliance costs. The FDA has immensely strict laws. So to make up for all the up front costs, the new drug is given insulation from genetics for 8 years to recoup loses.

Actual pharma r&d is done by government grant funded research institutions. Pharma company expenditures are mostly about monetizing and marketing.
