The coal plant across the river from the nuclear reactor I work at releases way more radiation than we do. By a lot. Natural uranium in coal doesn’t get burned off, just carried with the ash.

I wouldn’t want you to drive a car as old as these plants. Chernobyl designed in the 1940’s. Fuki designed in the 1960’s. Updated, 4th generation plants cannot expose the core after loss of power. Very safe.
