This is blanantly false! It was the Southern DEMOCRATS that launched a filibuster to prevent its passage...as a result, Kennedy & Johnson reached out to REPUBLICANS to push the bill over the line!

Rep. Cohen is exactly correct. A cursory read of Google & Wikipedia shows massive bipartisan support that grew for civil rights legislation in 1964/65. Your filibustering Southern Dems were a minority and morphed into current GOP. I recommend Risen’s book, Bill of the Century.pic.twitter.com/BujsES3hZu

I lived the time. My region/state/community had watched the speeches, the unending marches, the dogs and the water hoses turned on humans, the dignity of a people who wanted to be treated equally. It was a force of passionate righteousness. It. Was. Time. Don’t diminish history

The civil rights act and the right to vote both passed with a good majority! Dems were the ones who voted no or abstain from voting! Your argument is flawed. @RepCohen You need to do research and try again. The civil rights act was passed with GOP's massive backing.

Happens Daily. The #BlameGames with the @GOP and followers. They shout, "They did it first!! They started it!! What about what they did!?!?" Me: Great!! Now that we've got that narrowed down, Let's fix it. Blaming irrelevant people doesn't address the needs of your family. @DNC

You set him straight. You know your stuff Mr. Cohen. It is important that someone corrects this misinformation on the spot. Many gullible, history deficient people will believe it without a counter comment.

@RepCohen: The KKK was founded almost 56,000 days ago. Democrats and the DMIC: Democrat Media Industrial Complex have done more to promote the KKK in the last 700 days than the KKK has done for itself in its 56,000 days of existence. Only Democrats are obsessed with David Duke.

Whoa! Careful Cohen, you might hurt yourself bending over backward like that! The Republican party brought the abolition of slavery and women suffrage. None to mention that the voting rights act was introduced by Dirksen(R) and Mansfield(D). Bipartisan.

Yes the Republican Party did laudably wnd slavery and helped give women the right to vote. My great grandfather wasca pastor and physician. His history does not make me a pastor nor a physician. My point is the party has morphed and seemingly no longer maintains it's values.

Please, show me your evidence of how the party morphed. If you look at the two major parties, we will see that they have morphed. The Dems have gone further left to socialism and the GOP has become slightly less conservative and more authoritative, but has realitivly stayed same.
