Minimum insurance requirements for motor carriers were established in 1980 & have never been adjusted for inflation. It’s inadequate and saddles families with crippling medical care costs resulting from catastrophic crashes.
My amendment w/ @RepEspaillat, @RepCohen & @RepHankJohnson modestly increases the minimum insurance requirements & requires that it keep up w/inflation.
This isn't about trial lawyers or an attack on truckers. It’s about supporting families who have lost loved ones.
Sir, the owner operators should be omitted regarding the increase, these guys take care, they're driving their own trucks. Please amend it. These drivers we need on the road. The larger companies hire drivers should be liable, hiring drivers who may not take pride in their job.

Amazing how elected officials who are attorneys never seem to think Tort Reform would be a good start. I appreciate you making an attempt to put small companies like us out of business so your attorney friends can make a larger commission.
If this goes thru, Thousands of small trucking Co. will go out of business. My insurance with no claims went up 51% this year, and i have $1M limits. I would support $750,000 to $1M.
