Over the past few weeks, a number of constituents have reached out with serious concerns regarding the city's new homeless ordinance.
One business owner said they are considering shutting their doors and leaving the city. They told my office that vagrants have stolen $3K worth of copper wiring from their A/C units. Feces and needles litter the sidewalks outside their storefront.
Another business told us they've spent $5K securing their property. A major tent city has popped up across the street. Only yesterday, a truck pulled in a neighboring parking lot to do needle exchanges. The business is less than a 1/4 mile from an elementary + middle school.
We can do better. On Monday, I sent a letter to @MayorAdler calling for change. Yesterday, @GregAbbott_TX also called for action.
We are driving away job creators and innovators. We aren't helping the homeless. It is out of control and it needs to end.https://www.fox7austin.com/video/611211
When we came for the sentinel summit i was disgusted at the state of our capitol. Felt unsafe at our hotel and paying over 200/night to have to sidestep piles of feces to get to my room guarantees not another penny will go to austin until they clean it up.
