Today, @HouseOversight Civil Rights and Human Services Subcommittee will hold a hearing on migrant children who are detained after crossing the southern border. As the ranking #GOP member, it is important to clear up a few things.

I sent my chief of staff to the Clint, TX @CBP facility that my @HouseDemocrats colleagues are spewing falsehoods—flat out lies—about repeatedly. You’ve heard the them. Kids drinking from toilets. Migrants unable to shower or brush their teeth. Poor conditions.

Many of the members making these claims did the tour, the exact same tour, I am told, that my chief of staff took. They saw that there was plenty of water, food, blankets, bunks, staff (including medical + cleaning staff on hand), and friendly agents (playing soccer w/ the kids).

They’ve lied about kids drinking from toilets. The sinks are connected to the toilets, but the water is potable and separate. Furthermore, and more importantly, there are always huge coolers of water available to all.

They’ve lied about the toothbrushes and showers. BP agents have toothbrushes w/ toothpaste on hand and make them readily available to all. There are pristine showers with soap and towels available. The facilities go through a 3-step cleaning routinely.

They are lying and/or using hyperbole to describe things that are purely the result of their refusal to A) realize there is a crisis B) provide the tools and resources to law enforcement to deal with the 3-consecutive months of 100K apprehensions.

It isn’t just about the Clint facility, though. It is about my colleagues repeated refusal to make the necessary changes to our broken #asylum laws that allow dangerous drug cartels to use and abuse these children and migrants for profit.

Make no mistake, that is exactly what is happening. Migrants (men, women, and children) are being abused at the hands of drug cartels. Right now, today, a little girl will be abused on her journey through central America to our southern border.
