The #VAWA reauthorization has many important provisions like closing loophole that allow domestic abusers access to firearms. The data is clear: the mere presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation makes it five times more likely the woman will die.
The gun homicide rate in the US is 21x higher than in other high-income countries, fueled in large part by elevated rates of intimate partner violence. Each yr, at least 600 women are shot & killed by a current or former intimate partner-- an average of one woman every 16 hours.
