Can we all just agree that there is no practical reason to land astronauts on Mars? Don't we have better things to spend that money on? If we need to inspire people about science, how about developments in renewable energy and energy efficiency? Fusion research is inspiring.

Yes, and can we all agree that the bloated military spending (as well as the billions of dollars we send overseas for others’ military spending) would cover all our scientific interests?
