While the political and military situations are complex, one thing is abundantly clear: The United States cannot turn a blind eye to the millions of Syrian refugees seeking humanitarian assistance and a new home, safe from conflict.
These people have endured unspeakable tragedy and are under the constant threat of chemical attack from Assad. I urge President Trump to reverse his discriminatory immigration policies and welcome refugees that have been thoroughly vetted by our national security agencies.
The United States has a moral obligation to do our part to address this humanitarian disaster and to help the innocent men, women, and children who are caught in the middle of this tragedy that is unfolding before the eyes of the whole world.
