Last week, I joined @RepMikeLevin in the @VetAffairsDems Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity for a hearing on “Economic Well-Being of Women Veterans” in collaboration with the #WomenVetsTaskForce, which I’m proud to chair.
We learned from @FinalSaluteInc, @IVMFSyracuseU, @Service2School @studentvets and @ffWomenWarriors about economic challenges and opportunities facing #womenvets, including higher education, homelessness, career advancement, and entrepreneurship.
Women veterans are the fastest growing homeless population in the U.S., and continue to face a pay gap when compared to their male counterparts.
Women veterans are also over-represented in higher education compared to male veterans, and earn degrees at higher levels than non-veteran women. Women veterans are twice as likely to enter #STEM occupations than non-veteran women.
The #WomenVetsTaskForce, now 72 participating members strong, will continue to increase visibility of the two million women who have served in the U.S. military and promote inclusivity and equitable access to comprehensive healthcare, benefits, education and economic opportunity.
