.@RepJohnJoyce and I led a bipartisan group of members calling on the FDA to crack down on companies who label non-dairy products as milk. Dairy farmers in Upstate NY set high standards for the milk they produce. Copycat products shouldn’t be able to profit off their hard work.pic.twitter.com/nFE7LOoP2c

Plant/nut milks serve the same purposes as dairy milk. I don’t think consumers are confused & if they accidentally buy a non-dairy milk they’re probably better off. Veggie “burger” serves same basis as a ham”burger”, Kraft Singles serve as cheese.pic.twitter.com/tq8De0BBzC

It’s not the word “milk” that’s the problem, it’s that consumers don’t want animal products as much in their diets.

This is unnecessary. People know the difference. The dairy industry is losing market share to these other “milks” because people are looking for healthier more environmentally friendly alternatives, not because they are being tricked into it.

Whether or not my soy milk is called "milk," I'm still going to be lactose intolerant. Is there research-based evidence that the word "milk" on non-dairy products harms small dairy farmers more than other issues they face?

This is great, the day to day work of a congressional representative. But you have to do right by your constituency on the big issues also, such as the #GreenNewDeal, providing jobs while healing the planet.

Great job...people read the word “milk” and think the nutrition values are equivalent. Ideally consumers would read the nutritional info, but in reality they don’t. #GotREALMilk

While I agree with this, I think we have bigger problems to solve in central NY and at the federal level.
