Today marks the 57th anniversary of the assassination of Medgar Evers. Medgar committed his life to justice. He worked to integrate the Univ. of Mississippi, expanded the NAACP in the South as its first Field Secretary for Miss., and fought to end segregation in public places.pic.twitter.com/VHvL6ygi10
In 1963, at age 37, Medgar Evers was gunned down in his driveway in front of his wife and children and was initially denied entry to an all-white hospital. He was eventually admitted but died an hour later. Last year, his home in Jackson was designated a National Monument.
